Most destinations expect a recent passport-style photo, 35x45 mm, on a plain white or light-grey background, without filters or heavy shadows.

Common rejection causes: photos older than 3-6 months, glasses with glare, hair covering the face outline, and phone selfies taken at an angle. Use even lighting, face the camera square-on and keep a neutral expression.
